La Champagne is a region of timeless natural beauty. The name derives from the Latin "campus", "campania" or field. In Old French this became "Champaign"; today, Champagne.
A glass of Champagne never tastes as wonderful as it does when you sip it in the tasting rooms of one of the great Champagne Houses. If you are planning a trip to France, the Champagne region is a short, and very pretty, train ride from Paris. Whether you visit Mumm, Moët & Chandon, Roederer, Taittinger or any of the Champagne Houses, a tour is fascinating and the tasting at the end is guaranteed to present you with several of the top champagnes.
The villages of the Champagne region also have magnificent architecture and delicious food to enjoy...DAY 1 :
- 8.00 am pick-up at your hotel in Paris. Depart for the Champagne region...
- Situated on the 'Route du Champagne', the Château de Condé will enchant you. This is a real treasure trove, crammed with thousands of surprises and delights!
The Prince of Condé, Savoie, Richelieu,Watteau, Oudry, Servandoni, have successively owned, lived in, decorated and loved the castle.
- After visiting the Chateau de Condé, our driver guide will then drive you to Epernay, using the back roads in the heart of the Champagne Region which will allow you the see the different vineyards.
- The quiet town of Epernay lies by the river Marne and is surrended by vineyards. Here, you will visit one of the larger Champagne Houses such as Moet & Chandon, Mercier or De Castellane
Each of these champagne houses provide guided visits and has a different story to tell about the history of their own particular champagne.
- One night accommodation in a charming 3-star hotel or a 4-star hotel located nearby Epernay or in Reims (breakfast and dinner included) (no drinks included)
DAY 2 :
- Many monuments and monuments and museums bear witness to Reims place in French history, including the Gothic cathedral of Notre Dame and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Remi.
Since the early 19th century, Reims, an excellent starting point for exploring "la route touristique du champagne", is also known for its Champagne Houses (Ruinart, Mumm, Veuve Clicquot,..) and their hundreds of subterranean chalk cellars, some of them in former Gallo-Roman quarries.
Then our driver guide will take you back to your hotel in Paris.
