The 90th Anniversary of the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel commemorates those Canadians who served our nation during the Battle of the Somme, including those Newfoundlanders who fought at Beaumont-Hamel.   Australian Tour: (Anzac Tour).   “After Gallipoli, the Australian troops arrived on the western Front in 1916 to take part in the battle of the Somme – The small village of Poscierre was to become famous by the huge sacrifices of the three divisions that fought there. These divisions were to fight again, the following year at Bullecourt and then in the Flanders during the 3rd Battles of Ypre. Their return in 1918 helped stop the last German offensive – the Kaiser’s Offensive at Villiers Bretonneux. They then helped to liberate large numbers of towns and villages from the Somme to the Hindenburg line.” On this circuit you can discover the Australian Memorial at Villiers Bretonneux and Victoria School, as well as many of the military cemeteries that punctuate the local countryside. Péronne and Mont Saint Quentin will also be explored, as will Poscierre and the site of windmill, Gilbraltar, Bouquet Farm, preserved trenches and mine craters…   Please note that there is no guided tour inside the museums.
